Abstract
Objective: The objective of this research is to conduct a 4 week study on two groups of stroke patients - Thera-band Training Group and Treadmill Training Group; and compare the results on the patients¡¯ walking and balance.

Method: This research was conducted on 50 random stroke patients undergoing physiotherapy at Seoul K hospital from June, 2010 until September, 2010. The patients were divided into 2 groups - 25 undergoing Thera-band training and 25 undergoing treadmill training. Both groups trained for 50 minutes a day, 3 times a week, for 4 weeks. Measurement tools used were 10m walk velocity, Timed up & go test(TUG), the Korean Version Berg Balance Scale(K-BBS), and Motor Assessment Scale (MAS). The difference between the 2 groups was compared using paired t test.

Results: After 4 weeks of experimentation, the Thera-band Training Group showed a more significant difference(p<.05) in 10m walk velocity, Timed up & go test(TUG), the Korean Version Berg Balance Scale(K-BBS), and Motor Assessment Scale (MAS). As for the correlation of measurement between measurement tools, 10m walk velocity and Timed up & go test(TUG); Korean Version Berg Balance Scale(K-BBS) and Motor Assessment Scale (MAS) showed high correlation(p<.05).

Conclusion: It can be concluded that Thera-band training is more effective in enhancing the functions of stroke patients.
